M&M version 2.0

And we, for now, have a new M&M in the owl world - Matilda and Mortimer - which sounds suspiciously like a vaudeville act that came on right before the spinning plates, and after the opera singer...

What fun this is! Pure and sweet and exciting and illuminating.

Those of us who were here for the first M&M (Molly and McGee) thought we were learning about how owls behaved. And we were. But what we didn't know at the time is that we not learning about how ALL owls behave. What we took to be NOB (Normal Owl Behavior) was, in fact, NOB for M&M. It seems that it wasn't NOB for Willow and Bear, or Mel and Sydney, or Lucy and Ricky.

And who knew that we would also have the matinee idol Erroll (aka Darth Invader) swooping in to attempt an owl coup? Pretender to the throne and potential peril for the hatchlings, The Villain of Oceanside is adding quite an element of drama to the evening adventures.

Oh, and we also have smurfs (you know who you are), worry-warts, know-it-alls, whiners, and those "inside the flight path" posters (you know the ones - they talk to each other like the rest of us are not there). Plus the amazing amount of lurkers who have come out of hiding, and the old-timers who calmly answer the same questions over and over, and serve the chat rooms with affection and humor.

We have Kangarobin, who is absolutely delightful and has given us the most incredible camera views of this experience and a running commentary of humorous asides and great information.

And we have all the rest of the people who are watching and commenting and taking pictures and learning and posting. And all the while, we are seeing one of the most ordinary events in nature - the hatching of eggs - in the most exceptional of communities. A community of nature lovers with so much to give and share and contribute. And  you can't have been in these chat rooms without noticing that we have some REALLY funny people writing. And some really creative people, and a lot of really sweet and sincere people. And we have owls. Gorgeous, intriguing, compelling owls and their offspring.

I haven't had this much fun since I kissed Skeeter Davis in a dark corner of the gym at the Shindig Dance in seventh grade!
